This "Spring" design entails several elements which all contribute to a satisfying whole: a continuous twisting leaf motif, a decorated initial letter, flat and raised gilding, a damascene pattern, the addition of a vine - all of which you can mix and match to create a design of your own.
Lesson 1 - We will be learning how to draw a continuous leaf, which twists and turns as it enhances the initial letter. We will also be doing flat and raised gilding - flat gilding a larger area than normal, and we will compare different sizings to that end. We will begin to paint the first design. You will need to have design 1 transferred onto a 7" x 7" piece of 140# paper and ready to paint.
Lesson 2 - We will continue painting design 1, and start design 2. Design 2 builds on the first design, expanding and raised/flat gilding areas, continues the new leaf while adding a vine, and introduces a damascene pattern in the background of the S. These techniques will be of value to you in your own designs.
Lesson 3 - We will continue what we haven't finished from lesson 2, and, if time permits, will expand further on the S design, providing more areas for raised/flat gilding.
