The forms of so-called Gothic script have seen substantial changes throughout the history of writing, depending on the period, place, and artistic influences. Just think of the rigid and repetitive forms of textura and the Renaissance and decorative forms of fraktur. One of these forms developed in Italy from the 12th to the 13th century CE, where much wider, rounded letters appear in manuscripts, with a firm base of vertical rods, accompanied by capitals of various types, including illuminated and decorated Lombard letters to serve as capitals. In this course we will try to rewrite the original forms, starting from manuscripts, and reproduce the texture given by the dense columns of text. This is a way of reacquainting ourselves with a perhaps little known and undervalued aspect of our culture. The course is suitable for everyone, beginners and experts.

Supply List:
Paper
- 1 pad A3 or bigger (approx. 11x17) layout paper, or good quality paper (Canson Bleed proof or similar paper for ink or: no more than 120 gsm, as the paper must be transparent enough to see the guidelines. Paper must not be extremely smooth/glossy and repellent or too rough bleeding and absorbing. You need to get sharpy letters. Make a test before! (P32)
- A few larger sheets of bleed proof or similar paper to work with larger tool
- Short and long texts for your exercises
Pens/Pencils/Brushes
- 1 Pilot parallel pen 6mm (blue cap) and black/dark colors ink cartridges (FP67, FP69)
- Optional: Automatic Pen # 4/# 5 and 3.8mm (green cap) (N27, FP67)
- Two 2B pencils, rubber bands and a 2H pencil (PL38)
- 3mm nib (and other widths as you prefer to use) (N09, N02)
Ink/Paint
- 1 bottle Black ink (any of Pelikan 2400, Parker Quink, Higgins Eternal, Mont Blanc (bring a fountain pen thinner ink and avoid “Calligraphy ink”) (I08, I123)
