Brush writing is one of the most expressive forms of calligraphy used today. Many styles can be recreated with the brush using the pressure technique, both classic and not, from the italic forms to the various types of cursive to the forms of sign painting. This workshop aims to understand the basics of how the round brush works and how to obtain a formal writing (at least initially) based on the skeleton of the italic, according to the model proposed by the teacher. We will use mainly Tombow brushpens, and only later with brushpens and real brushes with bristles; after the first exercises on the single strokes and on the control of the tool, we will move on to the construction of the alphabet, of words and of a small text.
More flexible and sensitive to pressure, the round tip brush allows for greater manipulation of the mark and a different dosage of ink, making it possible to deal with writings with very varied and contrasting weights and thicknesses. Studying the dynamics of brush writing, resisting, at least at the beginning, to decorations and distortions, is an exercise that reinforces the disciplined approach and allows you to acquire solid bases to be able to create later a personal style with a strong expressive value.
Let's learn to appreciate the simplicity and naturalness of brush writing, to know how to "look" with a critical and in-depth approach to calligraphy details in order to improve ourselves as calligraphers and also as people!

Supply List:
• At least 3 Tombow dual brush brushes in black and/or another dark color of your choice (M120)
* Warning: Tombow brush pens and the like wear out the tip quite easily
* It is advisable to have enough brush pens (3/4 for each day of the course, to be used on a very smooth and not too absorbent paper, such as layout or tracing paper). Do a test run to make sure the ink dries quickly and at the same time does not spread
• A3 layout pad or fairly smooth layout paper (P09-50, P09-100, P32)
• 1 or 2 good quality round-tipped brushes (I use Da Vinci or Daler & Rowney, size as desired (they can be slightly smaller or larger than the tip of the Tombow); in any case, not very small and not huge in order to get reproducible writing on the paper size used during the workshop (BR22, BR49, BR30, BR91)
• Some small jars or containers for tempera and water (S856, S1106, S853)
• 2B pencil (PL38)
• Paper tape (S1145), ruler (S270, S271), pencil sharpener (PL70, PL34, PL68) , eraser (E13, E06), cutter (S417)
• Few sheets of white/colored good quality paper (PS88, PS112, PS61)
• Some short text
