ALL SKILL LEVELS | PENMANSHIP
The speed of digital communication today has gifted us with more time to pursue the things we love. Writing, and the time it takes to produce letterforms, is good for the body, mind, and spirit. It is also a gift to the recipient, who holds your elevated thoughts in their hands, literally, and with far more consideration and pause than through a text or email.
The child of Spencerian calligraphy, Cursive Handwriting is still relevant today. No matter what your skill set, Cursive is the friend who watched over you as a young student and stayed by you as the adult learner you are today. We’ll celebrate together the minuscules & majuscules through formal exercises in structure, rhythm, and flow— all standards similar to those taught not that long ago.
Initially, we will spend time focusing on the masculine and feminine strokes that make up every letter—bringing them into sharper focus and contrast. Then we will move through kerning our lines with added breadth to the minuscules. And finally, we will dance with majuscules and dive right into florals to accent our lettering, flourishes to celebrate the fun we are having, and a final project incorporating all we have learned using The Magic Grid.
All will be drawn with colored fountain pen inks and a glass dip pen, producing sensuous glass lines of grace, love, and beauty. Lines just like you.
