ALL SKILL LEVELS | POINTED PEN

Spencerian is a much-requested writing style, whose gracefulness is beyond compare. It is quicker to write than English Roundhand Copperplate, perfect for client work, and has such a deep history in our American story. What could be better than that! By starting in pencil and moving up to pen and ink, any fear of learning a new letterform melts away.

Spencerian has only seven principal strokes making up the letters. We will cover each of the strokes and letterforms so you understand how they combine into words, sentences, and paragraphs. We will even cover some alternative letter forms! This will not be a deep dive that could be intimidating, but a great start to this gorgeous lettering hand.

I know when I am familiar with a style, I sometimes deviate from the original form that was intended. Do you find that, too? This class is perfect for intermediate students as well, acting as a refresher for the classic Spencerian hand. This will be a fun, fast-paced class with lots of tips and tricks included.

CLASS SUPPLIES

  • Nib; a stiffer one for beginning students (such as a G nib) and a more flexible one for intermediate students (such as a Hunt 101)

  • Walnut ink with container for dipping into (or wide mouth jar)
  • Paper towel to wipe nib
  • Smooth, translucent writing paper, approx. 20 sheets
  • Underlay guidelines will be provided
  • Small container of water to clean nib
