Class Overview - All Skill Levels
Edward Johnston brought back the study of calligraphy with his “Foundational Hand” based on Carolingian minuscule. For many decades, this hand has been the guide for many generations of calligraphers, and in fact, it is one of the most important hands to master in calligraphy. However, the 20thcentury “Foundational Hand” needs some adjustments and additions, to cover a broader field of calligraphy hands, more related to refined forms of Roman capitals in small letters or daily book-hands, especially in design. In this workshop, we will learn the Foundational Hand from a modern perspective, with elegance and refinement of broad edge pen techniques.
