Daniele Tozzi - Words into Shapes - Sept 16, 23, 30

Student will explore the technique of calligram that consist to create a silhouette made by words. The workshop refers to people in love with lettering, calligraphers and designer that wants to have more skills especially with hand made types. Daniele will introduce the world of calligrams by showing students a series of examples, some historical and others more recent, to show the evolution of this technique. The first part of the course will be an introduction on letters deformations and alterations. Students can bring their own silhouette (printed at home), or quickly drawn their own. Then will start to make first trials of composition, searching the right interlocking between letters or exploring different ways. The second part of the workshop consist to define one sketch and go to the final artwork using ink, colors, brushes or whatever technique students prefer.

• A3 sheets of light paper pads (P70, P09-50)

• Mechanical pencil (PL21, PL30)

• Rubber (E13, E09, S86)

• Fine and thin tip markers such as Faber Castell Pitt Artist (M43), or Stabilo OH Pen, and the same with tip M and Brush for backgrounds (M120)

• Your favorite calligraphy and drawing tools, starting from the calligraphic nibs (N77, N113, N118, N69) to watercolours (WNWC1, S1000, MGWC)
