Description

BOTANICA is a new calligraphic drawn letter alphabet inspired by the William Morris “Lily & Pomegranate” print of 1886. Tue PM | 8 LIVE/RECORDED SESSIONS | ALL levels | No Prerequisites | 6-8:30PM Eastern US time :::: AUG 13-OCT 01 | $224-$280 ⌛️20% EarlyBird Discount through August 6th, 2024. Grow vines that sprout turning leaves and flowers to form this upright script hand. Discover the secret to drawing living, sentient strokes that mimic the forms of nature, using a color palette of warm greens, powdery ochres, and cool blues to soothe the soul. Your nervous system will thank you for it! ?Harness the power of watercolor pencils, a kneaded eraser, and a graphite sketch to build an entire alphabet. ?Focus your attention on the repeating structure of the majuscules, in it’s most basic form of strokes - the vine. ?Learn to build an entire alphabet by repeating the essential structure of just 3 majuscules that form the DNA of any calligraphic hand or type face, (including a voluptuous ampersand). ?Learn how turning leaves and accent florals provide balance to letterforms, and how to interchange elements in your own unique way. ?Create single, double, or triple monograms of varying complexity. ?Make a BOTANICA BUNTING to call in the power of manifestation and the joy of celebrating a specific season, event, or person. Here's the class schedule: Week 1 • Tue. Aug 13, 2024 6pm-8:30pm Eastern Week 2 • Tue. Aug 20, 2024 6pm-8:30pm Eastern Week 3 • Tue. Aug 27, 2024 6pm-8:30pm Eastern Week 4 • Tue. Supply List:

E09. Kneaded Rubber Eraser, QTY 2
S939. Wafer Light Box
S1005. Clic & Go Foldable Water Pot
PA42. Arches Watercolor Paper Pack, 90lb Hot Press, 8.5x11in, 20 sheets
FP93-Fine. Pentel Aquash Waterbrush (Fine) (FP93-Fine) QTY   1

PAPER----------------------------
• Any Hot Press (smooth) watercolor paper will perform very well. Below are brands Iove used and liked. You'll want to have at least twenty 8.5 x 11 sheets. If you already have a smooth watercolor paper you please don't feel obligated to purchase more if you don't need it. (PA42)
• Crane's Lettra by Crane & Co. Fine Cotton 100% Rag. 32 lb. Writing in Pearl White or Bright White. This comes in a 250 sheet ream and is WONDERFUL to draw and paint on, also luxurious to fold into envelopes. An internet search will bring you to some stores that sell sheets in smaller quantities.
• Transparent marker paper for tracing the basic leaves and stems (if you do not have a light pad for tracing.) (P32)

WATERCOLOR PENCILS-------------------------
I use 2 brands for Botanica:
• Caran D'Ache Museum Aquarelle Soft Watercolor Pencils #661 - Light Cobalt Blue #161 - Light Blue #181 - Light Malachite Green #182 - Cobalt Green #249 - Dark Olive #041 - Apricot #571 - Anthraquinoid Pink #034 - Yellow Ochre #025 - Green Ochre #055 - Cinnamon
• Albrecht Dürer Faber-Castell Watercolor Pencils # 173 - Olive Green Yellowish
Also included in the exemplar are swatches of other brands of watercolor pencils I've used in the past. These swatches from other brands may help you choose colors that are similar to the Caran D'Ache, if you'd rather use what you have and not purchase new supplies.
Alternative Brands included in the swatch sheet are:
• Derwent Graphitint Watercolor Pencils: These are soft and creamy neutrals. (PL33)
• Faber-Castell Albrect Durer Watercolor Pencils: Harder and waxy pencil that makes crisp, sharp detailed strokes.
• Derwent Inktense Watercolor Pencils: INTENSE, soft, and V I B R A N T. (PL32)

BRUSH----------------------------
• Pentel Aquash Water Brush - FINE. This is the cheapest and bestest most fabulous brush I have. I don't fill it with water, just love that it's sharp and snappy, keeps a point, and can be protected by the cap (which can also be seated). (FP93)

MISCELLANEOUS---------------
• Mechanical pencil to line paper (PL21)
• Ruler (S270)
• Soft pencil that is dark enough to sketch without creasing paper and can be erased easily. My faves are Blackwing 602 and Blackwing Natural (PL11)
• White eraser (E13)
• Kneaded eraser (I buy 2 and smush them together.) (E09)
• Tombow Mono Sand and Rubber Eraser 510A (E2000)
• Light Pad for tracing (S939)
• Water container (S1005)
• Paper towels or towel
• Pencil Sharpener. (My fave is an electric table top by AFMAT.) (PL70, PL41, PL68)

FOR THE FINAL BUNTING PROJECT------------
We'll duplicate the letters and spell out a word, then trim them and paste onto another colored sheet with holes in the top so these letters can be strung together with twine or ribbon and hung anywhere in your home.
• Decorative Card stock of your choice as a backing for the flags of your bunting
• Hole Punch or xacto blade (S417)
• Ribbon or twine
• Scissors (S1665)
• Adhesive of your choice like paste, glue stick, spray adhesive. (S391, S1663)
• A ladder to hang your Botanica Bunting up high!
