Good paper IF it fits your uses

Posted by Tonya Lee on Feb 20th 2024

The last few years, thin Japanese papers have been very popular. Tomoe River isn't bad paper (even after the mill changes) and works well for general writing and light calligraphy. However, be aware that this paper has an exceptionally long dry time so accidental smears are inevitable. Also, thick fountain pen and calligraphy lines and/or wetter nibs will curl the and wrinkle the paper. If you stack these warped papers together like in a notebook, it quickly feels like you're trying to write on a puffy pillow. It's not bad paper, but I'm about over the onion-skin thin paper craze and have switched back to beefier gsms.

    Best Paper

Posted by DELLA DeYOUNG on Jun 25th 2022

This is the best paper. I've use it for all of my Italic, Uncial, Spencerian, and pencil practice work for a couple of years now. Most of the time I use both sides of the paper even though I use Sumi ink. I also use this paper to write letters. The only reason I give it 4 stars and not 5 is because of the price. It was about the same price pre-pandemic for double the amount of paper. There isn't that much difference between the new Tomoe and the old-press Tomoe regarding the feel of the paper. Della
