Paper to Print to Book to Art by Joseph Lappie – Level: (A) All levels
This 5-day course provides participants the ability to have authorship over the creation of an editioned artist’s book. Four of the days will provide demonstrative experiences, with the fifth day focusing on work, completion, and presentation.
- Day 1: Beating and pulling cotton-based fibers and begin writing copy or planning compositional layouts.
- Day 2: Printing monotypes as a background/companion image.
- Day 3: The setting of lead type, as well as press work.
- Day 4: Construction of a drum-leaf book structure.
- Day 5: Individual support, evaluation, and presentation of work completed.
The primary focus of this workshop is to develop an editioned artist’s book that can be shared throughout one’s community or with the art world. Beyond constructive content discussion, we’ll focus on individuals concern as time and space allows. This may involve alternative mark-making techniques, shaped-paper, binds, pigmentation, etc.
NOTE: This is not a 'hand-lettering" course. We will work with existing type and fonts used in a creative way
