Calfskin vellum has a white or nearly white surface, but some skins produce vellum with irregular coloration: an off-white cast to the entire sheet, areas of differing shades of light brown, or both. We call these Character Vellum because they have more depth to their coloration. Other than that, the surface quality is the same as our Classic Cream Vellum, and it is prepared for writing on one side. For certain artworks the coloration can add to the interest of the piece or give it an aged look. And it is less expensive.
