• TOPIC: Expressive calligraphy and dancing letters This workshop will present a range of contemporary calligraphy styles using different instruments and a method for the evolution of calligraphy. From very simple and basic forms, we will see how to shape strokes, letters, lines, and finally, composition. Beyond learning the alphabet, Julien will show us his highly creative vision of writing. Day 1 The Basics Working on simple and basic letter shapes. Presentation of strokes and instruments. Very basic concepts and a sensitive method of shapes. Day 2 Making Words Dance Evolution of letters, ligatures, and the notions of space. Day 3 Composition Essentially, the management of space, shapes, and colors gives artistic creation its full meaning. Day 4 Q&A and presentation of works.
• SUPPLY LIST (excluded from the registration fee) WORLDWIDE SHOP • We will work with all kinds of materials (it’s a creative class!): Speedball and Brause nibs, Cola pens, straight-point pens, brushes, pointed nibs, and automatic pens. • TEACHER –Julien Chazal ( his book is available on Amazon here) Renowned artist and calligrapher, Julien CHAZAL became an independent artist very early on. Born in Nancy where he studied until the Fine Arts, he remains passionate about drawing and classical painting. He will discover Latin calligraphy at that time, a graphic virus that will never leave him. A renowned pedagogue, he teaches drawing and calligraphy very early on and will teach at the Fine Arts of Réunion. Arriving in Paris in 1997, he works in numerous fields, including events, fashion, cinema, and publishing. Many companies call upon him for his innovative and creative talents: Ungaro, Rothschild, L’Oréal, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Maxim’s, Chaumet, Balenciaga, Shiseido, Moncler, and many other luxury and fashion references. He will also work with great names in the art world such as Sophie Calle with whom he collaborates, as well as major museums (Le Grand Palais, Le Musée d’Orsay, Musée Picasso) and major art galleries (Kûgel, Perrotin). Today recognized worldwide, Julien Chazal actively participates in international projects and continues to develop his research in new techniques. He continues to teach at a high level and presides over the MOF competition (One of the Best Craftsmen of France) in the Calligraphy section. He has more than 150 exhibitions to his credit.
