In this 4-week online workshop with Elinor Aishah Holland, we will look at samples of Rik'a (Arabic Ruq’a) and get to know how to use the pen. Students will learn the independent letters and then the letter connections. Developed during the Ottoman era for scribes for official documents and fast note-taking, the Rik’a script has an ease and charm all its own. Rik’a is a functional script, and an easy script to learn. It is a good beginning script for any students before moving on to more stylistic scripts such as Thuluth and Naskh.
