Learn the art of Thuluth-style script calligraphy with visiting calligrapher Elinor Aishah Holland from New York. Students will learn the basics of some letterforms and proportions. They will also explore creative approaches to letter compositions and then finally create a small composition. This class is designed to immerse yourself in the art of calligraphy, with hands-on, personalized instruction. Thuluth is one of the oldest and most popular scripts in the Islamic calligraphic tradition. Using authentic tools, we will delve into the letterforms using the historical method first developed in Baghdad during the 11th century and later refined during the Ottoman period.
