Over 6 classes, we will create 8 different layouts, using a variety of skills and techniques. Participants must have knowledge of at least one calligraphic lettering style. Topics we will cover include: Drawing guidelines: large, medium and small—also using an Ames ruling guide Centering: Getting it more precise (notice I didn’t say ‘perfect’) Using a Speedball B-series nib Serendipity in design & trusting the process Hidden messages Handling longer texts Creating a layered background Dramatic Ascenders and Descenders Combining calligraphy with graphite backgrounds Dancing Letters Strategies for avoiding mistakes Lettering small Nib sharpening
