Travel back in time to the 13th century with this online ZOOM workshop exploring the traditional techniques of raised gesso gilding, gold leafing, and more to recreate the stunning illuminated illustrations. Learn tips and tricks for:
- Reconstituting gesso
- Applying gesso with precision
- Banishing air bubbles
- Gilding with transfer & loose gold leaf
- Polishing your gilded masterpieces
Whether you're a seasoned artist or a beginner, this workshop has something special for everyone who's enchanted by the magic of gold leaf. Classes will be conducted in English. This workshop is designed to accommodate participants of all skill levels. Whether you are a complete beginner or someone who has studied gilding techniques before and is looking to refresh your skills, this class will provide the guidance you need. The online class will be recorded, so you can join the live class and/or just watch the recording. You have unlimited access to the videos for 2 months after the final class.
Recommended materials: - Dogtooth agate burnisher (short handle) - Gilding gesso - 3 sheets of genuine loose gold Leaf - 3 sheets of tracing papers - 2 sheets of Japanese wax papers - 2 sheets of watercolour papers - 1 sheet of glassine paper - Dried red bole powder - Straight penholder - You will also need watercolour/gouache for painting, small paint brushes, a pair of scissors, ruler, pencil, eraser and a fineliner. I will also show you how to handle loose leaf with a gilding cushion and a gilding knife.
