Students begin this exciting adventure by making their own folded pens from thin brass and then move to learning a very distinctive modern script. The pens are simple to make and promote expressive writing from the first marks on the page. Folded-pen script, though similar to pointed brush writing, is easier to learn and has a unique contemporary feel. By custom-making their own pens, students will be able to fit the pen to their hand and also to the “look” of the letters they want to create. The workshop will explore several colorful techniques using the folded pens to make a variety of letterforms. The folded pens are likely to become a favorite writing tool, as students develop a passion for expressive lettering. Check out the companion Zoom workshop for more Folded Pen Adventures!
