Description

P69. Capitol Bond 25% Cotton Practice Pad 24lb. 8.5"x11", pad of 50 sheets.

May 2023: Gilbert Bond has been discontinued and replaced with Capitol Bond. This was found and tested by Heather Martinez & Carol DuBosch.

A great pad for broad-edged pen practice. Has a nice tooth and holds good hairlines. Acid-free.

"I tested many similar papers using a variety of wet media and writing tools to find a replacement for Gilbert Bond. There was no bleeding, feathering, or soaking through the paper with any of the wet media (gouache, sumi, watercolor, Higgins Eternal, and Pilot Parallel Pen fountain pen ink). The paper has a surface with enough tooth for smooth writing with the metal pens and brushes tested and is thin enough to view guidelines from behind. Capitol Bond folds well and would be excellent for bookmaking projects plus I was able to blind emboss without concern of punching through the paper. I highly recommend Capitol Bond paper! -Carol DuBosch"

    Capital Bond Pper

I wanted to like this a lot, but the ink in my Pilot Parallel pen bleeds - this is unacceptable since I use this pen/ink every day. If you use walnut ink you’re in luck, and sumi ink works well too. Response from JNB: I grabbed a sheet after seeing this review, and did some additional testing. I can see some bleeding with the Pilot Parallel Ink. This is a “wetter” ink, so I believe that is likely why there is some bleed. For my testing, while there was some slight bleeding on the backside of the paper where more pressured was used on the letterforms, starts and downstrokes, there was no feathering, and it did not bleed into the pages below. If you would like a different pad, please reach out to customer support!

    Great for practice!

Allows for fine lines and crisp edges with a broad nib, which makes this paper worth it! Even though there's some minor bleed through, it doesn't stop me from using the back side.
