This workshop will cover step by step guide to constructing a geometric pattern from a plasterwork in the façade of the Mexuar at Alhambra Palace, Granada, Spain. The Mexuar was built by Ismail at the beginning of the fourteenth century and later reformed by Mohammad V. It is one of the oldest buildings of the palace complex. This pattern is one of the elements of the elaborate façade found before entering the first room of the Nasrid palace complex. We will deconstruct the design based on a grid of squares and eight pointed stars. Before we start the lesson, a short demo will be given on how to use the tools more efficiently, especially a compass. After construction of the pattern, we will expand our design. Tips and techniques of transferring your tessellated design will be discussed. Once transferred, we will discuss different ideas on how to color our constructed pattern.
